Fractional Chief Technology Officer
For companies scaling past what their first engineering lead can carry. Architecture, engineering strategy, build-versus-buy, technical due diligence, and the organisation that has to deliver it — held by someone who has done it from first engineer through to global executive.
This is for you if
- Your first engineering lead is excellent but has not built at the next scale
- The architecture that got you here will not get you to the next order of magnitude
- An investor or acquirer is about to ask questions you cannot yet answer
- You are hiring a permanent CTO and need the seat held — and the role defined — first
What the engagement includes
Architecture and technical strategy
A defensible plan for the next eighteen months, including the build-versus-buy calls and what to deliberately not build.
The engineering organisation
Structure, hiring plan, levels, and delivery cadence — including standing up offshore capability centres where that genuinely helps.
Technical due diligence
On the way in for acquisitions, and on the way out when investors or acquirers put your own stack under the microscope.
A named successor
The goal is to make the seat permanent. That means writing the role, running the search, and handing over cleanly.
How it usually runs
Typically two to four days a month, agreed up front, with a standing weekly slot and availability between. Engagements run in three-month terms so both sides can reassess honestly.
What it is not
Not a hands-on lead engineer. If the immediate need is someone writing production code every day, the build lab is the better fit.
Bring the brief, or the empty seat.
Two paragraphs is enough. You’ll get an honest read on fit, timeline, and cost within two business days.
